Water Aid

Water Aid is an international charity which aims to provide fresh, clean drinking water to LEDC countries which do not have access to water, including even a lack of toilets. Its main areas of work are Africa where it helps countries such as Zambia, Ghana and Ethiopia. However, they also help countries across Asia and even help countries like Papua New Guinea and Nicaragua, other countries in need. Their bases are in the US, Canada, UK, Australia, South Africa, Sweden and one is even being currently set up in Japan.

The Brew Club’s aim is to turn in a profit and to help people brew their own beers to take home. It is a completely different organization to Water Aid as Water Aid has a large aim to help countries all over the world whereas the Brew Club is small and is a business providing a small service just to make money.

The Brew Club functions through limited liability meaning that the business funds itself. This means there is no way to keep the business going once all funds are gone as they do not receive any money from the public or the government and even depend on themselves when they get into debt. This could cause the business problems as if they lose money or lose all of it, the business could be forced to close. Also, because the business is local the profit the company can turn in can be extremely low so marketing campaigns and public awareness can make this business more money and help it grow larger. This is beneficial as Water Aid can help support these countries all the time in different countries at once and provide clean water, toilets and sanitation. The business ownership of Water Aid is a ‘Private Limited Company by guarantee without share capital use of Limited exemption’. This means the company has limited liability which protects it from tax exemption. However, it cannot raise funds through the sale of shares. Water Aid’s purpose is to supply fresh drinking water to everywhere by 2030. Where they do receive small amounts of money from the government, most of their funding is donated by the public.

The charity spends its time raising money for less economically developed countries and filtering dirty and even providing hygiene and medication to the sick. Water Aid operates in the primary, secondary and tertiary sector as they are self-sufficient as they extract materials from natural resources then extract the raw materials to get cleaner and safer water.
