For this gallery my theme was death. During the Renaissance, this was a very important theme because of the plague which swept half of the population. Many people had passed away during that time period. The plague had influenced artists to focus on themes like death to illustrate how they felt. In my gallery, the pictures are focused on the black death. My art gallery shows how people were impacted by the bubonic plague. For example, it shows how the physicians dressed in clothes which covered there the whole body, therefore, they don’t get infected. My gallery also shows how people were infected with the symptoms on their body, and the destruction in towns during that period. Another one of the cultures I focused on was the African American culture which also showcased how artwork like sculptures and masks influenced their culture. Also, how the plague had affected people of all society. In my gallery, I really enjoyed learning about the Dance of the Death because it gives a powerful message that after death everyone is equal. The only thing that matters is the good deeds a person does in there lifetime. This is a very important piece of that time period and related to the plague. While on the other hand I also learned how African culture has so many festivities and ceremonies in which masks play a crucial role. These ceremonies are part of death as well as happiness. Also, these two time periods are very different from one another. For example, the black death was a depressing time for people and death became an important theme. While the African artwork shows death as well, but it’s shown through ceremonies. I learned a lot more about these cultures by doing my own research.
