Abortion is one of the most controversial issues in our society. What stance do you take on abortion? As a pro-life or a pro-choice? Buddhism is a path of practice and spiritual development leading to insight into the true nature of reality. Buddhism has a pro-life stance on abortion but at the same time Buddhism also believe that one should have ultimate decision to abort or not. Buddhists are against abortion because they believe that the embryo or fetus is a human being. Next Buddhist strongly believes in the cycle of birth-death-rebirth, and Buddhism permits abortion in some cases such as when a mother’s life is in danger, disease and rape. Firstly, Buddhism is strongly against abortion. Because they believe that aborting an unborn embryo or fetus is taking away life of an innocent is an act of killing. Also, Buddhism believes that human life begins at fertilization and an embryo or fetus is considered a human being. Therefore, Buddhism believes that aborting an unborn embryo or fetus is taking of a human life because Buddhism is strongly against killing any kind of living being and violence. …show more content…

Rebirth is “a life form hard to find and once found, very meaningful; a treasure more precious than a wish fulfilling gem.” Buddhism says that all beings go through numerous stages of life and one of the stages all beings undergo is the cycle of birth-death-rebirth. This occurs from beginning of the time, which is believed to start at conception. They also believe that one’s consciousness from earlier life seeks a birth and it transfers itself through an intermediate state to a new rebirth. So, once the consciousness transfers seeking a new birth at the time of fertilization, Buddhism considers the unborn embryo or fetus to be a human.
