Budget Cuts To Eliminate Extra Curricular Activities In School

Extracurricular activities are common in schools and these activities can range from physical sports, FFA, debate, art, to FFCLA. These groups and clubs are used in American schools as a student past time and can even help determine colleges for graduates. Extracurricular activities are a fun and engaging after school process. However, due to school funding it has been discussed that the school should create budget cuts to eliminate extracurricular activities. Some teachers and administrators are in compliance with this procedure because they believe it will save money and help construct other projects to better the school. On the other hand, administrators against the dismissal of extracurricular activities argue that students who spend their free time with school related activities are less likely to get in trouble. In my personal opinion, extracurricular activities should continue because of these three justifications; students are less likely to get into trouble, students are more active, and lastly students can develop more in depth social skills.
Extracurricular activities after school and on weekends can potentially keep students out of trouble. This is because students are constantly at practice, fundraising, or at the actual event itself. It is critical as young adults to maintain a healthy lifestyle to prevent many other types of affliction such as obesity or alcoholism. A student who is staying fit, mentally and physically, is more likely to excel in school. Being active is not only important from a physical fitness aspect but also from a mental health perspective. Student’s activity levels will stay heightened as long as there is extracurricular activities to be involved
