In the introduction “The Other Wes Moore”, Wes (2010) explains about two boys with the same name live in the same street and grows up in the same time. However, they have different luck in the life that is one of them is successful in life and is educated, and the other one is unsuccessful in his life and criminal. In addition, the successful boy gets on Rhodes scholar, and he gets the most prestigious academic awards in the world. After he finished the full scholarship, he read an article in the newspaper about armed men was shot and killed the police officer, and he saw two brothers did this crime. One of them has the same his name, Wes Moore.
Moore exhibits how, “… few lives hinge on any single moment or decision or circumstance,” and that there was not defining difference between him and the incarcerated man who shares his name (182). The main difference between him and the other Wes Moore is the collection of family, culture, and experience that Moore had in his upbringing. His mother and grandparents, by providing structure and the opportunity to go to private and military school, “… made it clear that they cared if [he] succeeded, and eventually so did [he]” (115). His mother and grandparents, through their constant attempts to keep Moore looking beyond his seemingly hopeless future, created expectations for him that he would ultimately want for himself. On the other hand, the other Wes Moore never seemed to have any meaningful expectations that he could seek.
The themes of violence being a part of human nature extend beyond text, and unfortunately shine in today's society through social media and gun violence. The Kid represents the “nightmarish possibilities of the American dream” as he started as a runaway seeking for a better life (Moran). The Kid is often caught between violence and a temporary morality, he also symbolizes the struggle of a society that is growing increasingly desensitized to

There was once a very small school outside of Chicago. This was a very typical school very nice teachers, and respectable students, or so everybody in the community thought. This school had one unarmed security guard and he was there to help with the bullying problem, but the state law would not allow him to carry a firearm. So the school year came to an end and all the children were approaching their last couple days of school when this happy little town had one of the darkest days in it’s history.
Who else would have an opinion or interest in this issue? Politicians, citizens and law enforcement are other stakeholders. These people have many opinions on gun control and its effects. What arguments and/or evidence would Moore’s opposition and critics present?
Moore explores both sides of the argument by talking to people who both own guns for ‘safety reasons’ and those who are strictly against guns. In an interview with NRA leader Charlton Heston, Moore shows him a picture of a 6-year-old girl who was shot by a young boy in her class. He asks why Heston held a Pro-gun rally in the city the young girl was murdered in just days after the incident. This causes viewers to be angered by Heston’s actions and believe Moore’s argument is the better one. Moore does this to shows a wide range of view and
What is the worst thing you ever done? Perhaps it yell at your mom, or maybe steal a candy bar form the the store. How did you feel after the fact? Guilty, or regret? Well unlike normal people, nicholas cruz gets his kicks from killing 17 inconnect students of Stoneman Douglas High School.
Over recent years the amount of school shootings has increased tremendously from numerous causes, which leave lasting effects that change our daily life and routine. School shootings are devastating events that seem to happen more and more often as life progresses. It is not possible to know the one true reason why people decide to commit this awful act, but it is possible to look and see some of the daily causes that lead a person to go this far. These causes are as simple as bullying, prejudice, mentally ill, or a bad home life. Not only are the causes bad but so are the effects that they leave behind.
Informative Speech Going Out with a Bang General Purpose: To inform. Specific purpose: To inform my audience about the causes of school shootings in America. Central Idea: The main causes for school shootings are easy access to guns, mental instability and trauma. INTRODUCTION I. (Attention Getter)
On the issue of gun control, I had always thought along the lines of opposing or supporting the issue but had never thought that there could be another argument different from these two main ones that could be discussed. It was therefore quite refreshing to look at the issue from Novak’s point of view. The fact that he provided evidence to support his claim that law enforcement has worked before in reducing gun violence cases made his article all the more interesting and believable. He shows that the debate on gun control may just have been pointless all this time as the issue that should be discussed is really not whether people should have guns or not but rather how to enforce the law to ensure that perpetrators of gun violence are
Sierra Holtsclaw Mr. Litz American Lit Period 2 The Shooting As a result of Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold's stomach-turning actions in the columbine shooting, security measures were taken to improve students and staffs safety not just in school but all around the united states. Dylan and Eric were not very popular in school and statistics of school shootings show that kids that are victims of bullying are “twice as likely to bring a weapon to school” (Mother Jones par2). Many people tend to overlook the situation of bullying in school and social media.
This paper also provides an interesting solution to gun violence; instead of already proven ineffective gun control laws, these authors suggest looking at why these laws are ineffective. Planty, Michael, and Jennifer
