What is bullying? The following report focuses on the issue of bullying. Bullying is something that many people will face in their lifetime. Bullying is defined as intentional harming or harassment that is directed towards a vulnerable target and is generally repeated. This can include aggressive behavior, physical violence, verbal mockery, threats, excluding people, rumors, and teasing. With teasing, it is often hard to tell where teasing ends and bullying begins. The issue of bullying can appear in different forms. The forms in which they can appear are physical, verbal, social, and cyber. Physical bullying would consist of intentional hitting, shoving, pushing, and other kinds of physical force. Verbal bullying would involve hurtful comments, name-calling, teasing, and other types of verbal harassment. Sadly, with the emerge of the internet, bullying has become a more serious issue overtime. These days, cyberbullying is the most common form of bullying as new technologies are adopted and used as a platform for bullying. People use the internet and technology to bully by sending hurtful emails, text messages, and even hacking into accounts and stealing online identities. Bullies can easily hide their identities online so the victim does not know who it is. This faces many challenges as it happens online and outside of the boundaries of the school and other authorities. There are many organizations that work to ensure that bullying ends. Many provinces, regional school boards, and individual schools have established bullying prevention strategies, such as the zero-tolerance policy.
