Imagine our population of deer in Georgia. That’s about how many Burmese Pythons there are in the Florida Everglades today, but multiplied twice. Burmese Pythons are still affecting the Florida Everglades today. From overpopulating to destroying the ecosystem. Burmese Pythons are wiping out excessive numbers of animals like opossums, birds, raccoons, and even bobcats. If the “Burms” try for bigger game that bobcats (people) then we have a bigger problem on our hands. At an estimate of ten thousand Burmese Pythons live in the Florida Everglades. Therefore, Burmese Pythons are affecting the Florida Everglades by overpopulating and destroying the ecosystem.
Burmese Pythons are taking over the Florida Everglades, so the state’s fish and wildlife commission is holding its first ever Python challenge. The over population of Burmese pythons in the Florida Everglades is like the population of deer in Georgia. There are more than ten thousand Burmese Pythons in the Florida Everglades. Think again Burmese Pythons are NOT the best pet if you don’t know how to care for it properly. First of all Burmese Pythons are one of the most deadly snakes in the world. “[Can grow] to an astounding length of 23 feet and a weight of 200 pounds” (Piven). Burmese Pythons are very unique, other than their outstanding length and weight, they kill their prey very different than most snakes. Burmese Pythons are constrictors. “To kill their prey, they first grasp it with their back curving teeth. When the animal tries to pull away, it only sinks further into the python's grip… squeezes until the animal dies, and swallows the animal whole. [Can] swallow an object five times as wide as its own head” (Piven). The pythons have a hinged jaw which allows them to swallow their prey whole. Burmese Pythons are not the ideal pet.
