So, where do these carbon come from? In the industrial revolution, it was mainly coal. From that point on coal usage increased, it takes up almost half of the total emission in the world in 2013, though new “non-renewable” sources were found and used constantly, such as oil burning. "In 2013, coal burning was responsible for 43% of the total emissions, oil 33%, gas 18%, cement 5.5%, and gas flaring 0.6%." (“Global Carbon”) It is really surprising that coal burning is still the world leading source for generating power.
