Throughout America, the number of students attending career and technical education (CTE) programs is declining; the number of schools being able to offer such programs is one of the unfortunate causes. In 2014, there were approximately 26,000 public high schools and only around 11,000 of them offer career and technical education, which is less than half of America's high schools (U.S Department of Education). The fact that around 15,000 schools don’t offer these classes has a drastic impact on students. These programs help cut college costs, help to achieve a higher graduation rate, create employability skills, and assist with students finding long-lasting careers. The fact is that high schools must offer more career and technical education programs because the consequences can be drastic for students. CTE programs in schools give students access to a variety of programs and skills that regular class don’t teach. Colleges throughout the United States say that around 50% of students are undecided in what they want and that 50% to 70% change majors while in school (University of Laverne). However, because CTE offers programs and skills that are relative to specific jobs, students are more likely to stay in his or her choice careers. Students also become more prepared for college because the work load can be intense. Most CTE programs offer duel enrollment, which means courses have a similar standard to a college level class.
