In the story Call of the Wild, the author talks about a dog named Buck, who experienced different things about the wild. He stays strong in his journey of cruel and harsh things happening to him. This story takes place during a time where strong dogs were very valuable. They were needed to haul sleds through the snow. He goes through many owners but finds one who he loves the most and cares for. His name was Thornton. At the end of the novel Thornton gets killed leaving Buck alone again. Buck listens to the sound he’s been hearing for a long time, “the Call of the Wild.” He leaves and becomes part of a pack of wolves. I believe that not all dogs would be happy living in the wild. Certain dogs want to be loved by someone and others experience that people are cruel and don’t like that. In chapter 1 Buck is took from his original owner, Judge Miller. He lived in the sunny Santa-Clara Valley until he was stolen. He was sold and beaten. He watched other dogs too, get sold and beaten but everyday a new dog came in and others went out. In chapter 5 Buck is sold to new owners, Hal, Charles, and Mercedes. They do not care for Buck or the other dogs, they act selfishly and kill all the dogs and themselves. They start killing each dog one by one, leaving only 5 dogs left. Later on, reaching a camp, they meet Thornton, he warns them not to cross the ice but they decide to do their own thing by crossing it, which leads to them falling into the ice.
