Jonathan Gottschall talks about how the fiction genre affects the community in the essay, “Why Fiction Is Good for You.” He takes us through the highs and lows of the genre, and talks about how different groups of people view fiction books. Gottschall uses professional opinions, and factual evidence to explain how fiction builds morality of individuals and society. In his essay, Gottschall tells us how the different genres affect us.
They also gain an understanding of that period in time, how people were treated during that period in time and what went on during that period of time. When reading a novel it is more enjoyable to read than reading a factual report or article. It has been proven that if you find something enjoyable you learn and understand the topic better and in more detail compared to if you don’t enjoy what you’re doing. From my own experiences I can relate to the evidence.
People choose to read fiction for many different reasons. Everyone enjoys the different parts fiction novels have to offer. Some like the parts where the characters finally change while others hate that part. The best thing about fiction is being excited about the characters. It is almost as if you're a part of the novel and are going through it with them.

Society can learn valuable lessons through ancient myths. A myth, psychologically, means part truth and part fiction. Therefore, myths can teach people, through interesting tales of journeys of heroes, about important life lessons. It can also teach us about our past mistakes or ways to prevent further mistakes. For example, in the myth of Prometheus, it shows us how greedy, power-hungry leaders could lavish themselves with goods while their people suffer.

Myths are a cultural expression of a social value. We value private property, stealing is wrong, therefore you will be punished. Retelling the myths makes people more belong to a group of society or religion. After hearing the stories over and over it makes people think that there is truth to it. I see it as science answers questions religion/myth cannot and myth answers questions that science cannot.

What moral lesson is there to teach of the future generations to become?

Stories are an important part of every culture, so much so that many create whole classes for those that are able to share stories.
