People get hired based on their qualifications and experience. Someone may be qualified, but that does not mean they are fit for the job. If the qualifications for a job require having a college degree and living in the city where the business is located, that leaves a lot of people available for that job. However, there is more to an applicant than just descriptive qualifications. An ideal candidate should also have experience, such as having worked in the desired field, show knowledge and interest, and have a background that makes that individual exemplary. Does that change a voter’s opinion? Odds are, yes, it very well could change who the voter thinks should take office. Why? Well, maybe it is because the voter pictures our president to be a leader. We may think of a leader as someone who is confident, empowering, fearless, focused, hard-working, and, quite frankly, male. But why should gender matter? Women can be successful leaders because gender is irrelevant to somebody’s potential for success. The most inexperienced presidential candidate in modern history won the 2016 election, which also happens to be the same election in which the opponent was a woman. When we consider our current perception of women, this result doesn’t seem to be a coincidence. Women consistently do not get leadership positions, even if they have proven they can succeed. Specifically, women are not being promoted to CEO or other C-suite positions in the workforce. A chief executive officer (CEO) ranks as the highest executive in the company. Their responsibilities include having to make major corporate decisions, manage overall operations, and be the liaison between the board of directors and corporate
