Should Capital Punishment Be Allowed in Canada?
Capital punishment is an extremely sensitive topic. Oxford Dictionary defines it as “the legally authorized killing of someone as punishment for a crime.” It is otherwise known as the death penalty. There are many forms of capital punishment practiced in United States such as electrocution, execution or even gas chamber. This subject matter often divides people due to its controversial nature. On one side, there are people who bring up the notion that it is inhumane and that no one should be subjected to deprivation of life. On the other side, there are people who believe some criminals deserve to face the worst possible consequences for their actions. While the opposition party makes valid points, I will nevertheless stand by the side in favor of capital punishment.

Therefore, the verdict that is given by the judge can have a great impact on the victim’s family. A reason for capital punishment in our legal system is to exterminate vermins like murderers and rapists who must not be let to live. Pedro Lopez is known as one of the most scariest serial killers in the history of mankind who alone is responsible for rape and murder of more than 300 women in South America during the 1970s. However, when he was caught, he was sentenced to only 14 years in prison. After serving his sentence, he was declared “sane” and was allowed to reintegrate into society. Was this decision fair to the families of those victims who wished death upon him? I certainly don’t think so. Having to deal with the fact that the killer of their loved ones is still roaming freely can be traumatizing. Furthermore, it increases the chances of him reoffending those heinous crimes in the future. While there is no absolute proof that an execution deters others from committing similar horrific crimes, it undeniably brings justice to the victim’s loved
