The quote by Captain Beatty in the movie explains much of the motivation and accepted ideology of the community in Fahrenheit 451. The only way to establish total equality is to level the playing fields, and to level the playing fields one must get rid of objects that promote differences and individuality, i.e. books. Many Utopian novels attempt to establish possibilities of total equality, however as we’ve studied there is not “true” utopia for all. The perceived social, racial, and economic fairness always seem ingrained and there will always be those who oppress others through its use of infringement of human rights, lack of free will, and charged language concerning reinforcing the idea of equality, this is often utilized in Fahrenheit
He is the main character and the protagonist of the novel. He is a fireman, their job is burning the books and he enjoys it firstly but lately he feels a little bit of emptiness. When he meets with Clarisse McClellan who lives next door to Montag's makes Guy understands the cruelness of the society which they live in it. With that, he understands that he doesn't really love his wife and his marriage. He starts to think deeply about everything.
For the assessment blueprint, I will be discussing 4 different L.T. (Learning Targets) and describe what the assessment items are and how the items will be giving my students based on a story called The Lion and the Mouse. L.T #1 allows students to practice vocabulary and create their own sentences to describe the illustrations in the text. L.T. #2 is sorting and determining the order of events using their descriptions or the illustrations in the book.
Imagine this, five seconds left on the clock in the Nebraska State Championship game. The Sutherland Sailors are down by six points and need a touchdown to win. They luckily have the ball on the opposing teams one-yard line. The sailors quickly break the huddle and run to the line, as time is quickly running off the clock the center snaps the ball to the quarterback. As soon as he touches the ball he puts the ball up on his shoulder indicating that it is a pass.
The titles I enjoyed most in the past year that were required included "How to Read Literature Like a Professor" by Thomas Foster, which analyzed how to go beyond the surface of literature. "Mythology: Timeless Tales of Gods and Heroes" by Edith Hamilton condensed the majority of mythology into one piece, aiding in the identification of allusions in other works that I have read. Another piece I surprisingly enjoyed to read was the piece "Everything's an Argument" by Andrea Lunsford, which explained the different fundamental pieces of arguments and how an effective argument is developed. I enjoyed these three readings the most during the past year because they went beyond the usual school reading assignment. Each of these provide a new tool
Avi’s The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle is a thrilling book full of mutiny, sadism, and murder. The proprietor of all this is Captain Andrew Jaggery of the ship Seahawk, whom many believe is a sadistic maniac with the need for rule and discipline. However, the belief has surfaced that contrary to popular thought, Jaggery is a decent man with a mental disease that causes him to have a need for order and unnatural anger towards others for reasons only attributed to the disease. While he is not terrible or has a lack of compassion (psychotic), he is not a simply ‘stellar’ person as might be denoted. He is in fact just an adequate person to the unwritten rules of how a person acts, due to his OCD.

In the midst of the 1950 's, the Cold War begins. While in that period, William Golding creates Lord of the Flies published in 1954. This is a novel about young school boys crash landing on an island. The boys on the island let the fear of something inside of them be in control. In the story, there are lots of events that take place and characters that take part.

Leadership, is an important characteristic that many possess, this is required to form a productive society. There are many different ways for one to be a leader, and that couldn’t be more evident in the novel Watership Down, by Richard Adams. This novel is about a group of rabbits who leave their warren to flee danger and form a warren of their own. This group of rabbits goes through many struggles in finding a place to set up their new warren, like escaping a rabbit farm or getting attacked by crows. They later reach their ideal spot and dig it out using techniques they learned throughout their travels.
Ralph: A Civilized Leader In the Allegorical Novel, William Golding presents the conflicts between civilization and savagery, and their consequences on society. Ralph, a civilized leader, would be the best suited chief on the island because his inclination towards civilization makes him a compassionate, rational-thinker, who has rules and priorities. Ralph is elected democratically and is inclusive of everyone. His compassion towards the littluns gives him qualities of a successful leader, because he grants a voice to everyone.
All of which helped tremendously with becoming a more precise writer and developing my identity as a writer. In the beginning of this course we worked with different readings that were intended to challenge us intellectully. Readings such as “To see your story clearly, start by pulling the wool over your own eyes” which is found the New York Times and “All Writing is Autobiography” by Donald M. Murray where readings that were meant to be challenging yet unfamiliar to us as well. This concept helped me greatly because it proved that I can be a flexible reader.
The naval officer in chapter 12 of Lord of the Flies can be perceived in multiple different ways. Some may say that the naval officer was the savior, and that without him the boys would have never been able to leave the island. Others believe that he was the indirect cause of the island’s destruction and possible demise. Golding added the naval officer into the novel for a purpose, and not just to show that the boys got rescued. We will explore the importance of the naval officer and what his importance to the book really was.
