College and Career Essay

After researching colleges and careers, attending Sam Houston State University and being a basketball coach became an interest. Although high school coaches do not require a specific degree, getting a bachelor’s degree in something like physical education, history or possibly special education is an option.

To be a high school coach in Texas, schools typically require some sort of bachelor’s degree. Since most high school coaches have to teach a class as well, schools also require that all coaches be certified teachers. People can obtain their teaching certificate by taking a teacher certification program, either in college or after graduation. To land good coaching positions they have to build their resume and get to know a lot of people that could help them get the job they want. Some people build a coaching resume by volunteering for summer sports camps, being an assistant coach, or even by training younger players (Onkst).

The class asked her about what it is like having college classes along with being a college athlete. She said she has to get up at 5:00 am every morning for workouts, and also has class every day that she must go to (Knight). Since playing baseball in college is still an option, getting up early and attending class is a must. It will be hard to wake up so early every morning and take care of all of my school work, so playing college baseball is still a debate. Working hard and juggling school would be tough, but there would be no choice in college
