Envision a Mission for an Athletic Department At its core any program, including an athletic department, must have a set of core values and a mission statement, for which they can fall back on and follow. In addition to this mission, the department needs employees with a proper skill set and attitude to help move the company in the right direction, in accordance with the departments vision. A mission statement sets the tone and direction for a company, program or department. In addition, an institution is only as strong as their employees working towards that vision. Through competition, athletes will learn life skills such as integrity, respect and leadership. The Intercollegiate Athletics Department will align with the mission of the University, promote community improvement and engagement, inclusion and pursuit of excellence. It is the goal of the athletics department to provide the student athlete with the necessary skills to be successful on and off the field/court.”

One aspect of being an Athletic Director (AD) is dealing with personnel. This includes the hiring and firing of not only coaches, but office staff as well. If an athletic department can hire smart and driven individuals to work towards the departments mission statement, the other pieces of the puzzle will fall into place much easier. Also, hiring a competent staff, allows the AD to focus on just that, being an AD, rather than micromanaging and spreading oneself too thing amongst too many responsibilities.

Each position in the athletic department is unique and require its own set of skills necessary for the job.
To start, Assistant Athletics Director for Athletics Fundraising (AADAF), will work with the AD to determine and execute a strategic fundraising plan, in order to raise the maximum amount of money towards the athletics program. The AADAF, will focus on gift fundraising from donors, both major and minor. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, building relations with alumni and donors, stewardship and closing of donations, and coordination of fundraising events and meetings.
Next, the Assistant Athletics Director for Marketing (AADM), will work with the AD to build and implement a strategic plan for the promotion of all university sponsored sports. In addition, AADM will work with Assistant Athletics Director for Media Relations (AADMR) to build and execute a social media plan, to promote student athletes and teams in a positive manner. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to, coordination in campaigns for season tickets, supervision of in-game marketing strategies, supervise creation of television and radio spots, and increase student body
