Social workers are there to help people, families, and groups cope with everyday problems. In the late
1800s, social work wasn’t a profession, it was more of a volunteer situation. By 1900, social work became a formal occupation and later gained professional status. In 1920 social workers started working in public schools and hospitals. The Great Depression and World War 2 is what demanded the need for social workers.
During the wwIIsocial workers started working with soldiers and soldiers families. They helped the soldiers cope with injuries and serious medical issues. They also gave them resources to help them through mental challenges and provided them with therapy and counseling.

The ability that interests me is oral comprehension. I am a very good listener and I enjoy listening to others speak rather than me speaking.
Qualities
Some important qualities for being a social worker are communication skills, compassion, interpersonal skills, and problem solving skills. Social work requires you to talk to others and to listen to others and having good communication skills is part of that. You’re going to be working with clients who are in stressful situations and heavy situations so you need to have empathy for them and build strong relationships with them. Interpersonal skills are important because social workers don’t work with just one kind of person, they’re working with different types of people in different situations and you need to be able to be flexible and have good interpersonal skills.
The quality that interests me the most is interpersonal skills. I would enjoy working with different types of people in different situations.

Interests
There are two interests listed. Social and Enterprising. Social work involves being social and talking to others to help them. It also includes advising people in legal situations or political situations and that is where enterprising comes in.
Work Values
Some work values in social work include relationships, achievement, and independence. When working with others through difficult situations you gain a relationship with them and that is what happens in social work whether you’re working with kids or adults or families. In social work you are getting people the help they need and you’re using your strengths to achieve that and that's where achievement comes in.
Social work requires you to find solutions to problems on your own and be independent.

From this project I learned how my personality and interests are correlated with the career I'm interested in. For example I am a very compassionate person and it’s easy for me to empathize with others and that is one of the qualities of a social worker.
