Being schooled is no fun, especially when it’s by the biggest freak in school. The word schooled has multiple definitions. In this case, it is a slang term meaning to be taught a lesson the hard way. Various characters in the novel Schooled were taught a lesson, all involving Capricorn Anderson. The characters that were schooled in this novel are Zach Powers, Hugh Winkleman, and Sophie Donnelly.
First of all, Zach
Zach Powers, the main antagonist, was schooled by Capricorn Anderson in an ironic way. The lesson Zach was taught is that nothing good comes out of bullying somebody. “When Cap Anderson becomes the most, happening kid at C Average Middle School, that’s the end of the world. Especially when you consider that the guy he replaced was me” (120). When Cap arrived to C Average, Zach made it his mission to humiliate Cap anyway possible. He played pranks on him, and elected him as eighth grade class president, thinking he’s going to embarrass himself and fail.

The lesson Sophie learns is to be careful how to treat people. After Sophie took her driving test, she broke down crying when she realized Cap was the one who got her bracelet engraved, not her father. When Mrs. Donnelly asked Sophie why she was crying, she said, “Why? Because I had never said a civil word to Capricorn Anderson. From the day he’d set foot in our house, I’d declared war on the poor kid. I’d called him freakazoid, poured water on him, and never missed a chance to point out what a loser he was. And he’d responded by doing the most wonderful thing anyone has done for me” (176). Sophie was never kind to Cap, when kind was all he’s been the whole time. She realizes this and it all hits her at once. That’s when she realizes that she should’ve treated Cap better, because of all the generous things he’s done for her. In conclusion, Sophie Donnelly is the last character to be schooled by Capricorn
