Next, the treatment will move into problem-solving training where the clinician will address Trina’s problem orientation, this includes educating Trina on the identification strategies to enhance problem recognition, problem perception, and problem appraisal. The clinician will then teach Trina how to define her problems in an explicit and distinct way and make goals that are realistic and achievable. Then, together with her clinician, Trina will come up with a solution and apply it to a particular problem, later monitoring the effectiveness of the solution. Trina will be told to move forward with every stage of the problem-solving training, even if she has doubts about the outcome. This will help in dealing with her fears and aversion towards uncertainty.
This is for inmates that are addicted to heroin this works in conjunction with inmates being in community programs for substance abuse. This is not a program that all prisons have or are even fast to pick up on. This program is for inmates who are in their prerelease phase. In a clinical study it was shown that prisons who participated in methadone maintenance treatment programs were very successful over all in treating prisoners who use heroin (Kinlock, Gordon, Schwartz, & Fitzgerald, 2010). An alternative to treating prisoners in jail after they have no choice or after something horrible was done is treating them before they make it to the point where prison is needed this is called drug court.

Multiple criteria come into play when determining a psychological disorder. One reason is because, it is hard to know for sure if an action is abnormal or not. Something could be abnormal in our country, but a custom in another. According to Psychology in Action, “Rather than being fixed categories, both “abnormal” and “normal” behaviors exist along a continuum, and no single criterion is adequate for identifying all forms of abnormal behavior” (Huffman). There are times when people are plagued with thoughts, behaviors or emotions that will inhibit them from normal behavior.
