Unlike traditional coffee pots, you need one new K-Cup for every additional cup of coffee brewed. To add some perspective of how much coffee brewed translates to waste, there are several statistics to look at. "Each pound of coffee consumed sends 50 K-Cups to the landfill"(How Do K-Cups Impact the Environment). So a family or business consuming coffee, each pound they consume, they are disposing of 50 K-Cups that are either not recyclable or not fully recyclable. With millions of households in the United States utilizing Keurig technology, this is creating billions of K-Cups worth of waste being sent to American landfills. Keurig has plans to release a new K-Cup brewer, the Keurig 2.0, which will essentially lock out all of its competition. Basically, the design of the new brewer would make it impossible to use other companies K-Cups or designs. The brewer would be exclusive to Keurig Green Mountain, allowing them to all but completely corner the K-Cup market. The allegations made by numerous companies include "violations of both federal and state antitrust and anti-competitive laws" (Lawsuits claim K-Cup maker violates antitrust laws). These lawsuits could potentially have large impacts on K-Cup consumers as well as competitors of Keurig Green
