Associates of Applied Science in Psychology
Brief Overview:
The Associates of Applied Science in Psychology (AASP) is a program designed to provide students with an interest in Psychology the opportunity to explore the breadth and depth of different areas of study that fall into the field of Psychology. The program core requirements have been selected to provide a broad overview of the major areas and focal points of the field and to align with the basic core requirements of Psychology majors at area 4-year institutions (University of Maine, University of Maine at Farmington, and Thomas College.)

Economic Impact: Career and Occupational Outlook
The program is primarily designed to prepare students to continue their Psychology education at a 4-year institution. As associates degree in Psychology can be the first step toward service-oriented careers or eventually earning a bachelor’s.
According to research reported on psychology.org, “Over the last 10 years, associate degrees in psychology have seen a 243% spike in popularity, going from 1,800 assoicates degrees in psychology awarded in 2002-2003 to 6,100 associates degrees in psychology awarded in 2012-2013.”

Designations of these outcomes on the Course Syllabi will be indicated by the term “APA”, a number, and letter corresponding to the category and knowledge area.
