Mount Calvary Baptist Church officially became First Mount Calvary Baptist Church during its 1980 Annual Church Conference. For instance, Mai, has often lead a girl scout troop for Saint Mary’s at various grade levels and many more.” Says Mark Lytle. “She always serves others by chipping in to what activities her children do, she also cares for the sick, and during hard times she puts a smile on everyone’s face.” Answers Emilie Lytle.
Among various volunteering experiences, McKenzie says on a typical day she goes to the Montgomery County Job Center and does nails there. Her work as a volunteer entails decorating nails at birthday parties and participating in fundraisers to raise money for nail polish supplies. According to McKenzie, the most valuable parts about being a volunteer includes all of the friendships and relationships she has established with other volunteers and as well as some of the patients. For McKenzie, working with Alanna and the Polished Girlz has impacted her as a person as it allowed her to, “be more open and receptive to the thoughts, feelings, and needs of others”. In regards to seeing a young person such as Alanna undertaking such a huge and powerful project and vision, McKenzie says, “she makes me feel inspired to start something too, but I’m just not sure what.”
Plenary Keynote “On the Idea of a Christian College” - Dr. Timothy Larsen (8:30 session) “Knowledge is an end in and of itself” In this discussion, Dr. Timothy Larsen discussed the calling and the mission of a Christian liberal arts college and how a college like Northwestern allows us as students to connect our faith, purpose, intellect, and service. Throughout the speech, Larsen argued against the critics who believe that a liberal arts education is worthless and that students who attend such colleges are “being scammed” because they are taught things that they will never otherwise use in their careers and/or life. These critics of a liberal arts education do not believe there is a utility-maximizing point for the widened array of required subject study offered at a liberal arts college.
These students at Hope Academy all have disabilities and taking extra time out of your day will help them develop learning skills and also help them become more sociable. From all the information given about Hope Academy I knew what to expect as soon as I walked in. To be honest I actually got more than what I expected from volunteering there, the students actually taught me something. While volunteering you can tell that everyone there loves their job and enjoys every bit of developing the students. I am very grateful for Mrs. Pam introducing me to Hope Academy and giving me an amazing opportunity to work with those awesome children.
Everyday, she excels in her job of caring for the children and making a difference in the community. Due to her kindness she would always bring thoughtful gifts for the children. She doesn 't have to do the classes with the children everyday but she continues to do it like Sylvia says “school supposed to let out in the summer I heard, but she dont never let up” (Bambara 96). The lessons learned while earning her degree has lead her to becoming a positive role model in the children 's lives; nonetheless, teaching them lessons that may never learn from others. She shows her passion in the story by saying “she said, it was only her right that she take responsibility for the young ones’ education.
The sociological perspective encourages us to explore societies’ problems from a non-biased perspective. When investigating controversial issues it is quintessential to keep one’s opinion out of the equation. As C. Wright Mills stated in his 1959 essay “The Promise”, “Problems and their solutions don’t just involve individuals; they also have a great deal to do with the social structures in our society” (Leon-Guerrero, 2015). Eliminating personal experiences and self-perception creates an even playing field to determine fact from fiction.

Before I discuss my experience at Grace Lutheran Church I feel it would be beneficial to explain my Church Background, so that you can better understand my outsider view of the Sunday morning worship Service I attended. I have been raised in the Baptist/Southern Baptist church my entire life. My parents are from South Carolina, which is also where I grew up, so our idea of Church has always been a small community with a very relaxed atmosphere. I stopped attending the Baptists church when I was 16. I chose to join Bent-tree Bible Fellowship, a non-denominational church.
“Nope”, the answer would slip off the tip of my tongue whenever the question, “Are you thinking of going to a Christian college?” was directed at me. By my freshmen year of high school, I felt emotionally stretched thin and constrained by the small Christian school I commuted to for 8 years. It was set in my head that I would not attend a Christian college. However, after my turbulent journey through anxiety in my freshmen year, I came to understand the importance of being part of Christian community.
She has recently moved to the area at the start of the year and began preschool over the summer which she attends 5 days a week. The pre-school is an ECCE (Early Childhood Care and Education) community run pre-school in a quiet country side village within the grounds of a primary school. Emily is
