In the early stages, Jodi Arias denied visiting Alexander’s residence around the time of death and appeared confident that she would win the trial. Then she changed her story as new physical evidence placed her with the victim shortly before his death. This type of behavior does not look good for her. Right of the bat, the public defender should have pushed for advising Jodi to plead the fifth and not to testify.

The defendant is only claiming that she acted in self defense to get away with the cold-blooded murder of the man she claimed to love. The defense during this case tried to convince you that Mrs. Stephens was a helpless abused wife. Let me ask you, is Mrs. Stephens helpless when she was able fire a gun and put three bullet holes in her husband? And how is she helpless when she was given many opportunities to escape from her husband for her safety and her children’s safety?
The first murder involved a 17-year-old male and his 16-year-old girlfriend who were shot dead near their car at a secluded location on Lake Herman port. The police could not establish the motive of these initial killings or a suspect to the murders. The second incident involved the shootings of a woman aged 22 and her boyfriend who was aged 19 who were sitting in a car that was parked in a remote location similar to the first incident. A man with a flashlight who fired several shots at them attacked the two killing the man and seriously wounding the woman. After the shooting, a man called the police, gave the location of the crime, and claimed responsibility for the attack and the previous attack.
Connie: The Victim To A Demon The “heroine” of the short story Where Are You Going Where Have You Been written by Joyce Carol Oates has been interpreted in many different ways by many different authors across the globe. They all have their own opinions on why Connie had left her home and walked into the arms of Arnold Friend. Larry Rain makes the argument that Connie was a noble heroine that “chooses the side with the devil [to save her family]” (Rain Gale).
Smooth Talk is slightly based on Joyce Carol Oates’ story titled “Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?” but isn’t as straightforward and frankly gruesome. The story focuses on the 1960’s suburbia from a teenagers perspective. “Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?” focuses on topics relevant in the 1960’s including the Sexual Revolution. Oates’ focuses on major issues and topics such as feminism, sexual freedom, and adolescent sexuality.

The short story “Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?” by Joyce Carol Oates can be interpreted in a multitude of ways due to its ambiguity. A psychological lens, however, provides the most accurate viewpoint for analyzing the story as it clarifies certain obscure scenes and actions of Connie. One psychological issue of Connie that is easily inferred from the beginning of the story is her insecurity about her looks. Connie constantly worries about the way that she looks and takes any opportunity to do so, “craning her neck to glance into mirrors or checking other people's faces to make sure her own was all right” (1).
