Case Study: Thomas Zachman As A Mentor

I had the pleasure of having Thomas Zachmann as a mentor. We communicated via e-mail; we messaged each other throughout the week. I learned a lot more than I thought I would throughout this assignment. Thomas gave me very descriptive answers to the questions given, along with the many questions I personally wanted to know. Thomas and I share many similar characteristics and qualities. For instance we both believe that no matter the wages we make at the end of the day we just want to help people. We also found a professor at LIU Post that we look up to as a role model and/or mentor. He found a mentor and role model in Professor Wright and I find Professor Shorter to be my role model. Thomas and I along with his preceptors/mentors all share strong leadership qualities, we are always ready to take charge if need be, along with being able to handle difficult situations calmly and effectivly. I find it disconcerting when I hear of how some primary physicians are rude towards dietitians, some of them do not share the same respect towards them as they would other doctors. Doctors may also not utilize dietitians in an interprofessionalism way to effectively help the patient. I would also like to improve on helping a patient and letting them go back to their lives without a follow-up. Thomas told me about how hard it is to be left wondering if the patient will be okay or will follow his advice once they have left the hospital. I know that will be hard for me to handle in the future and would like to get better are letting go and trusting that I performed my job well enough that the patients follow my
