Emotions and passions take a big part in the Cask of Amontillado. Without the feelings of the characters there will be no tone to the story. The text reveals, “He had a weak point- this Fortunato- although in other regards he was a man to be respected and even feared”, (Poe 60). Emotions and passions buildup suspense on what Montresor thinks of Fortunato. The story is revealing a characteristic that, Fortunato should be “respected and even feared”. That was quite odd.
