The Catcher In The Rye is a story about a boy who is expelled from his school, and tells about his journey back to his home in New York City. In he beginning of the novel we are introduced to the main character, Holden Caulfield. He begins to explain little details about his life, like how he is in therapy, and how his brother is a movie writer in Hollywood. Holden attends an all boys school called Pencey Prep, in Agerstown, Pennsylvania. He has a problem when it comes to applying himself at school. Holden failed four of his five subjects, because of that he is being kicked out of the school. The novel begins a couple days before they let out for the holiday break. They had their troubles but, you can tell that she's the only one that ever understood him. Holden stops the reminiscing and catches a cab. He decided to go to a nightclub called Ernie's. On the way there Holden realizes that he is quite fond of the cab driver. After leaving Ernie's, Holden headed back to the hotel and went up to his room. However, on his way up, he is offered a prostitute. At the time he was not in the right state of mind, so he accepts the offer. When she arrived to his room, Holden became nervous and insecure, so he made up a lie to get her to leave. When he wakes up the next morning, Holden decides to call Sally Hayes. He ask her to meet him that afternoon. During breakfast Holden meets two nuns, which reminds him of his school Pencey Prep. He decides to take a break from it all and go for a walk. During his walk, he starts to think about Phoebe. He likes how Phoebe always seems to get what he is saying to her. Suddenly Holden comes across a girl who knows Phoebe. It did not take long for Luce to become aggravated with Holden, when he kept pestering him with questions about sex. Luce decided it was time for him to go, while Holden stayed behind and drank some more. Holden leaves the bar and stumbles around for a little while. He eventually decided that he missed Phoebe, and wanted to take the risk of going home. After a long walk Holden finally makes it to his home, where he was able to sneak in and see Phoebe. He wakes Phoebe, who was more than excited to see him there. She rumbles on about her life to him, but once she realizes why he was home early,she became upset and did not want to talk to him. After Phoebe calmed down for bit, she decided to hear him out. Holden leaves and decides to call his old teacher, who offers him a place to stay. Holden arrives at the old friends house, but soon becomes uncomfortable.They argued for a lot of the night until Holden fell asleep. Holden wakes up to the teacher rubbing his head, causing Holden to hurry out the apartment in fear. He gets Phoebe to meet him at the museum.
