Shatter the Indian, Save the Man Indian Horse, a novel by Richard Wagamese is a heartening story about a boy named Saul Indian Horse who attended residential school. This novel brings a depressingly believable story of a 1960’s residential school to life, through Saul, an Ojibway boy from northern Ontario. Saul’s character evolved through the challenges that he faced in his adolescent and adult life such as feelings of neglect, abuse and fault due to the gruesome environment that no young child should be in no matter they’re ethnicity. Firstly, Saul began to feel overwhelmed by the system even before he started to attend St. Jerome’s.
Author Richard Wagamese conveys a message in his novel Indian Horse displaying the idea of sacrifice. Specifically how people must sacrifice belonging for survival. Wagamese uses Saul 's experiences, choices and general story to express this message. Throughout Saul’s life he is forced to make sacrifices for himself and the people around him in order to survive, his isolation is what gets him through. Everyday people see the reproductions of community and how surviving isn 't an easy thing.
Currently, the U.S. is the leader in the fed-cattle industry and was the prime producer of quality, grain-fed beef cattle in the World in 2012. The U.S. was a pioneer in the ranching industry and has been instrumental in shaping the cattle industry into what it is today. Many of the early advancements made within the industry can be credited to the King Ranch, established in 1853. The King Ranch opened the door to large scale ranching and developing new breeds and methods to increase efficiency and decrease labor required to run a beef cattle herd. Richard King’s ranch continues to be the icon of modern day American ranching.
The novels To Kill A Mockingbird, by Harper Lee, and Indian Horse, by Richard Wagamese, both have a similar focus around 3 themes. The reader is enlightened on the concerns of abuse, 2ND POINT and racism. A different perspective of these themes is given in the two books and together they create a bigger picture that allows for a better understanding. Harper Lee gives a detached distant view while Richard Wagamese gives a very personal approach. Abuse was perhaps the issue that both novels centered around.

In the gripping novel titled “Indian Horse,” author Richard Wagamese successfully informs readers about the severely unfair conditions in which the Native Indians were treated. Through Saul’s terrifying experiences in the Residential school and hockey tournaments, readers can effectively identify the purpose of the novel – treating someone through any kind of abuse can leave them with long lasting pain, and memories that will haunt them forever. There were numerous incidents at the residential school regarding physical abuse, and after effects that followed.
The bison is a good American symbol. It is a good because it helps the Native American by getting food, shelter, clothes, jewelry, and weapons. We can take benefit from all his part, for example bison give us food from their meat, they give us shelter from their skin, and also they give us weapons spoons and jewelry from their horns. The Government of India took a huge step when it finally decided to ban beef around the country , and if not completely, it did it’s best that this animal - worshipped in Hinduism , Protected by Jainism and considered holy in Buddhism - had its freedom to live a life not afraid of the humans. No state law explicitly bans the consumption of beef and there is a lack of uniformity among State laws governing cattle slaughter. Most states have laws that make the slaughter of a cow / buffalo under the age of 15 to 16 illegal or if the animal is of importance and healthy. An argument, however, stated that the cattle will always be useful as even its dung is used for economic purposes.
When I was first diagnosed with ulcerative colitis, a common colon disease, I had no idea what it was. It wasn’t until several tests and explanations from multiple doctors that my parents and I started to understand the extent of the problem. Although it didn’t seem like it would be a big deal, it quickly took over my entire life. Dealing with the condition meant chronic pain, medication, and many more doctors’ visits. Fortunately, my case wasn’t too severe.
Most people my age have a passion for playing sports, but my passion in life is a little different than most. I grew up living on a farm and being around cattle ever since I could walk has been apart of my life, which brought me to one of the reasons why I have a passion for showing cattle. People often wonder why I love showing cattle so much and what the point of it is, but there are so many reasons why I have grown the love for it. There is just something special about the feeling of your heart racing when you walk into the show ring or the handshake from the judge telling you that all your hard work has payed off. It was so soundless, the elk was just wondering the only path he knew. The elk is already familiar with the normal noises that his habitat contains. For the elk to hear the sound of a gun firing up was a noise he will never forget. His head quickly turned around facing the area where he heard the noise. Shocked by what the elk has seen he stares at the hunter.
Cowboy Culture’s Impact On Modern Society Cowboys have perpetually been an iconic feature of the ‘Wild West’ since the 19th century; Henceforth, this has been a national image as the conqueror of wilderness, savagery, and villainy. These symbols of the West have developed diversity during the shift from the 1800s to the 1900s. This culture of “individualism clashes with the concept of community and ‘struggle… [, leaving] success [to be] wrought from sacrifice´(Rushing, 19)” (“MWF 9 - Cowboy Culture”, April 9, 2010).
So I waited and waited until lunch came. The whole time I sat in class holding my stomach with my head down. I begged my teacher to let me use the phone, but she was told that I wasn’t allowed. Finally lunch was here, and I couldn’t wait to feel better. I was very, very, very thirsty!
