In the story “The Know-it-all Generation” the author sets the scene in the first person and gives a personal account to prove an underlying issue that the generation may be facing. The generation consists of individuals that ultimately go off into the world with a sense of entitlement, false hope, and a pompous attitude due to constant specious comments made by those around. Meaningless compliments have become requirements for teachers, coaches, parents, and even peers. Being wrong is not an option in this generation. The main two points that the author states throughout the paper are 1.)

In the essay, “The Beat Up Generation”, by Abby Ellin (2014), within several discussions she explores and discusses the division and differences among generations that differ by age group starting with the baby boomers to the GenXers leading up to the generation today, the millennials. She uses factual evidence, examples, studies, and stereotypes to show how millennials are highly criticized by the older generations although they are better to adapt and needed in the changing world. The purpose of the essay is to point out these differences and criticism amongst the generations, how predecessor generations misunderstand the millennial generation. The intended audience refers to any individual that falls into the each generation.

Millennials are a generation of people born between the early 1980s and the early 2000s. Specifically 1982-2000, and if you think baby boomer’s parents procreated at a high rate well they taught their offspring to do much of the same. Millennials are now 18-36 years of age and comprise of twenty-four percent of the US population, but that 's about the only similarity between the baby boomers and the millennials. Other than the sheer size of the two groups millennials are becoming a generation that the United States couldn 't make up if they tried. Only twenty-one percent of millennials are married while forty-two percent of baby boomers were married at the same age, almost one out of every four millennials have a bachelor degree or higher making them the most educated generation ever seen.

Deciphering between different generations is something that fascinates our society today, and the labeling diction is constantly in everyday use. For example, generation Y, or millennials as they are often called, are one generation, ranging from 21 to 37 years old. There are also other categorized generations, like baby boomers, generation X and generation Z. Our society tends to stereotype generations when a majority of a particular one follows a sociological pattern. We can observe this in the protestant Christian church since there is an increasing struggle to keep millennials in attendance.
Technology has always been progressing thus it is rampant in our society today. We use technology; depend on technology in our daily life and our needs and demands for technology keep on rising (Ramey, 2012). Wherever you look, you will see people holding different kinds of technology like cell phone, laptop, tablets and etc. It appears to most of us that technology is a necessity to the point where we can no longer live without it. According to Gavin (2013), technology moves at a rapid pace, and can be hard to keep up with at times.
To solve these problems parents try to use various ways of influence on their children. Some of them are effective, some are not, it is very individual and depends on the character of the teenager. Moreover, it is age of storm-and-stress that causes much misunderstanding. According to the scientific research, teenagers with proper upbringing have fewer problems with their parents and generation gap is not so noticeable in these families, contrary to children from dysfunctional families who suffer from the lack of parental care, misunderstanding and indifference.
It means that they have different experience, lifestyle, communication skills or physical disabilities and cause the barriers between them. The teenagers will believe that they have no common interests and topic to talk or share with older people, resulting in poor communication. Moreover, the barriers block the transmission of messages and lead to misunderstanding. In order to better analyze this phenomenon, I will use my daily experience to discuss the barriers between teens and elderly. Also, I would like to suggest some solutions for building up the good communication between them.
