The American Revolution of 1774 was caused by a range of events strengthening the confrontation between the English colonizers and the citizens of the colonies. The first important milestone on the way to the revolution was the signing of The Proclamation of 1763 that forbade settling west to the Appalachian Mountains to preserve the lands for native Indian territory. The second influential factor was passing of several acts, including the Sugar Act and Stamp Act, that restricted the rights of the colonies and imposed a larger financial constraint on them to pay for the expenses spent on the prior war with France.
