A major episode briefly described in Revolutionary Summer was Britain’s victory of the French and Indian War, causing colonists to become less dependent on Britain for protection. Another event elucidated was the Proclamation of 1763, prohibiting colonists to settle beyond the Appalachian Mountains, which many Americans took offense to. Other acts including the sugar, currency, quartering, stamp, and Townshend Acts, angered colonists who strongly believed in equal rights and no taxation without representation. Colonists did not want to travel west just for the sake of exploring the new land, they wanted to make a profit in doing so. One easy way for the Colonists to make lots of money in 18th-century America was to participate in the slave trade. Colonists saw an opportunity to get rich by taking over Native land to expand their slave businesses and build new settlements in the west. However, the proclamation of 1763 prevented them from doing so which infuriated them. Horne argues that this was one of the primary causes of the American Revolution and that the famous taxes that the British later placed on the colonists, such as the stamp act, just added more fuel to the already existing fire.

I believe that the cause of the revolution was economic freedoms because the colonists had many taxes and economic violations by the British that lead to economic protests. According to the document “Road to War: Causes of the American Revolution”, the colonists could not trade with whoever they wanted because of the American Prohibitory Act. This prohibited all trade with colonies, and American ships and cargo could be treated as enemy property and sold. This lead to the revolution because this was violating the right to freedom, where colonists could own property. It was basically a declaration of economic welfare because colonists could no longer trade with Britain.
In addition, when the King issued the Proclamation of 1763, in which it prohibited settlements beyond the Appalachia Mountains, it caused an disturbance with the colonists who had already settle there because the proclamation ordered them to move elsewhere. Following these changes where numerous of acts being passed, causing more tension with the colonists and British, such as: The Sugar Act (1764), The Stamp Act (1765), Quartering Act (1765), The Townshend Act (1767), as well as some major events that also occurred up until 1775 when the colonists got together and decided it was time to fight for their rights. As a patriot I think the causes of the war were because of unfairness. I think that if the Britain would have been axtra fair none of this wreck would have happened. The fact the British government wanted us to pay taxes is enough to start this war. However there is way more that made us start a war. We Americans wanted to be independent and the Britain were messing that up.
