To Kill a Mockingbird is a very well known novel that was set during the Great Depression. The 1930’s Great Depression was a result of the stock market crashing, banks failing, and farms overproducing. As production grew throughout the country, farm prices dropped. The farmers lost money and were unable to pay their bills and loans. This led to bank foreclosures. The United States was simultaneously hit with a terrible drought. Farmers were devastated from both situations which resulted in lost profits and eventually large debts. Many people lost their jobs and unemployment was at an all time high.
