In the holes they dug they threw their friends, comrades, and officers. Millions and millions of deaths. The end of European superiority. Why is this? Was it the desire to annihilate all of a certain group, like in World War Two? Or was it a war that started because of unjust taxes and laws? No. The cause of World War One, a war that reaped 17 million lives, took away hope from a entire generation, and set the stage the biggest war in history was all because of a sense of superiority, a lot of stupidity, and selfishness.

This new form of “trench warfare” (which they dig holes for shelters and try to outlast enemies) were much more hazardous and drawn out then the old “stand in a line and shoot at each other a little” war tactics. Attacking small countries was easy, because they would give in almost instantly to due to being unprepared, outnumbered, and barely armed, but other superpowers had the money to match attacks and new technology with attacks of their own and researching their own technology, and would only give in after losing massive amounts of troops. Germany urged Austria-Hungary to attack Serbia, which was allied with Russia and other powers. As soon as Russia started mobilizing for war, Germany decided to attack Russia from the side, which would require going through Belgium, and when they requested to march through Belgium, Belgium refused. Since Belgium refused to let Germany through, Germany invaded Belgium, which provoked the British to join the fight. Britain had made a agreement that know one knew about vowing that they would protect Belgium if it was ever to be attacked. The reason why Europe’s military superpower joined the war and escalated the severity of this situation was because Germany had stupidly invaded Belgium unaware of what would
