Ce Chapter 1 Summary

Throughout the semester, the class met up with different international students. During these meet ups, the class got the chance to learn about different cultures based on the corresponding CEE’s. Each CEE ranged from a variety of topics. Every CEE connected with different sections of the textbook, which allowed us to use critical thinking and apply our knowledge. The first CEE was the Cultural Collage. This CEE allowed us to share different aspects of our culture, in imagery form. Chapter 3, Cultural Evolution, is related to this CEE because this chapter discussed the different aspects of culture. Many different cultures are interconnected and contain many similarities. Our culture colleges represented how culture is always changing. It also allowed us to identify similarities in our cultures. Chapter 1, Introduction, was also linked to this CEE. Students had to explain how their culture celebrated holidays. Cultures have different traditions to their holidays that they celebrate. This CEE corresponds to Chapter 9, Interpersonal, Attraction, Close Relationship, and Groups, because of how Thanksgiving is celebrated. In some cases, members of the family all get together and celebrate the holiday. This practice relates with the close relationship part of the chapter. Chapter 5, Development and Socialization, also relates to this CEE. This chapter explains how individuals are not born with their culture. People learn their culture by socialization. This relates with the Thanksgiving CEE for many reasons. The celebration of Thanksgiving is learned by an individual through experience. If one culture is not aware of Thanksgiving, then they would have no prior experience to it. Thanksgiving is an example of a cultural practice. I did not like this CEE because my conversation partner did not celebrate this holiday, so it was difficult explaining why I celebrated this
