On April 10th, 2017, a gunman walked into an elementary school classroom and opened fire. Killing a total of four people, two students, an adult, and the gunman himself. What makes this case strange is who the gunman was after. On Monday, Cedric Anderson walked into his wife’s, Karen Smith, special needs classroom. Smith had around fifteen special needs children in the classroom at the time when Anderson opened fired. There were two students who were standing by Mrs. Smith at the time of the shooting, but police have not opened up as to whether the students were shot directly or hit by shrapnel. But there was one student who had to soon be airlifted to the nearest hospital. Eight-year old, Jonathan Martinez, shortly died after he arrived at the hospital. So, when Anderson went into her school that day, the office did not think that he would have a gun on him. Anderson was checked into the front office upon showing his ID and then their normal procedures. There were not any indications that Anderson had a gun on him. Although there were no indications that Anderson was a harm to the school on that day, he did have quite the criminal record. Some included domestic violence, possession of weapons, and possession of drugs all on his record. The violence he had was present on Monday April 10th.
