If someone were to ask me what I wanted to study, I would not hesitate and quickly reply biology. A few years ago, if someone were to ask me what area I wanted to specialize, then I would be clueless and be unable to respond; however, after studying biology for several years, I can answer that I want to be involved in biomedical medical research.
A semester into college level biology, and 4 years of high school biology, I can finally state that I have a strong interest in biochemistry and cellular biology. Cell Biology is the study of structure and function of the smallest unit of life, the cell, and Biochemistry, is the study of chemical processes within the cell. These two subjects interest me the most, because a collection of cells, tissues, organs, and organ systems, compose living organisms. Within our own body, several biochemical processes are ongoing, trying to keep us alive. Similar to other scientists, I want to learn about …show more content…

While it is fascinating to see how HIV has become resistant to AZT, or studying how two types of glycoproteins identify a particular few virus, the more critical issue is finding a way to treat and prevent diseases. With biomedical research, I can learn the process of how scientists identify different cell receptors, and how they can use that information to create a possible drug to prevent the pathogen from spreading to more people. With viruses and bacteria capable of becoming resistant to most drugs introduced, biomedical research is an important aspect in order to stop a possible pandemic. Currently, the most intriguing medical field for me personally, and the field that I would most likely be involved in, would be medical research. Any opportunity to research in a lab setting would aid me in completing this goal and give me an advantage in the future by obtaining a general idea of scientists research possible treatments for a
