Overall from all the readings that were given, a clear message was being told. That message was that neither side wins. In Mark Twain’s “The Prayer”, he makes it seem like war is glorious, but it shouldn’t be glorified when war itself is horrific. He explains a war prayer that was being told then finishes off the story by saying, “It was believed afterward that the man was a lunatic, because there was no sense in what he said (3)”. It was clear that the man making the prayer to the patriots of war was claiming that he is sending a message from god and that god is amongst them.
The cell phone was originally invented in New York City, 1973, by Martin Cooper. Years later in 1979 the cell phone was patented by Charles A Gradde and Martin H (Innovateus.com). In the beginning the cell phone wasn't very popular. Most phones were still attached to a cord indoors, and were unable to be traveled with. Having a portable cell phone was a luxury that didn’t become common until the 1990s and was used mostly for business reasons.
The non-fiction reading called “A Cell of Our Own Making” by Moira Farr concentrated on cellphones and their importance in people’s daily life. The author goes in detail on how cellphones are given more importance and how far we has a society dependent on cellphone. The reading states that “It was now standard to ask student to turn off their cellphones before class, they ring anyways and one of student asked the teacher to leave the class just so he can answer the phone (Farr, 6)”. Farr states student consider cellphone more of an emergency then an actual emergency. The author tells us how people are too invested in their cellphones and how they would prefer talking on the cellphone over in person communication.
Kids should get their own phone once they are in the 6th grade. Sixth grade is the start of middle school and middle school is in between elementary and high school. That's when kids start to mature and become more responsible from middle school to high school. When I was in 6th grade I biked home from school and one day my tier broke and I didn’t have a phone to tell my parents. Then my parents thought it would be good for me to get a phone.
Turkle states that, “the mere presence of a phone on a table between them (two people) or in the periphery of their vision changes both what they talk about and the degree of connection they feel.” While this may be true, along with the other studies on how technology is detrimental to society, there as also positives aspects that contribute to society as well. “It is not about giving our phones but about using them with greater intention” (Turkle). This quote by Turkle embodies how I feel about the technology debate and the more new technology and phones have developed the more we have analyzed whether or not they are good for our society, and at what age kids should use them.
Behavioral changes from one generation to the next naturally occur little by little. Nonetheless, changes in adolescent behavior from the millennial generation triumphing it have been substantial and revolutionary. Today’s teens have never witnessed a world without internet. The majority of them possess smartphones and waste several hours each week on social media. But while numerous parents may feel allayed about their teens’ seeming uninterested in drinking, driving and dating, they could perhaps be overlooking the effects that continuous internet access has on their teens’ mental well-being.
Of those reasons are as follows; accessibility, safety concerns, not needed, the list goes on (The use and Disuse of Cell Phones). However, as time went on, the boomers became more accepting and adapting to the changes in the technology that was ahead (Technology and Baby Boomers). Boomers have lived through multiple era’s of technology. Taking a look at current technology, almost everybody has an iPhone. I know many different boomers who have them and have integrated cell phones into their daily lives.
Cellphones is also known as cellular phone; it is a transportable telephone that sends and receives radio signals through a network. Cellphone has a huge impact on people because it plays a major role in our daily communication; especially it helps us connect to other people easier. It gives us a chance of having access to different ability like keeping in touch with our family members, businesses relationships and more while we are in different places. However before the use of cell phone, people had desperate needs of mobile communication, so they had installed radiotelephones in their car. It was not effective and inconvenient to use, the main reason was the size, which was too big, and the use of phone was limited because it requires a powerful transmitter.

I would argue that kids who grew up in the 2000’s are more informed about the world around us and have the potential to become more educated than older generations. Cell Phones: The average teenager who gets on their phone, just for a second, each hour has the same mind as a 30 year old cocaine addict. Teens have their minds tricked into thinking they can’t live without their cell phones and social media. Teens need to be able to talk to and connect with others and learn face-to-face communication skills. Nowadays teens can get harmed very easily, and teens do not really know who is on the other side of the screen. Studies have shown that phones can ruin lives with the blink of an eye.
Do cell phones in class actually have such a huge impact on learning as educators say they do? Is it really relevant to ban cell phones at school? Do we really have to ban something which was already part of the school system? A simple answer to all of those questions is no. Although some schools don’t think cell phone usage should be allowed in a classroom.
