Are we 1984? Do you believe we are being watched? Our society seems that it is becoming more and more of what George Orwell’s book, 1984 is like. I will be discussing topics like surveillance, censorship, and violence in our society that are similar to how Ingsoc’s society is. We are like 1984 because of our surveillance. For example, “A survey conducted in 2014 said that 9% of the American people have complete control of all their personal information”(Gao). 91% say they don’t have control of what is supposed to be protected or safe.
