All children are different so it is the parent’s responsibility to determine whether or not their children can handle the different media. Some media critics believe that violent cartoons, video games, movies etc. are good for children. Gerard Jones gives an example in his essay “Violent media is good for kids” which he explains how violent media can be good for children, Jones explains his point by giving an example of his son. Jones tells how he exposed his son to marvel comics which helped him in his kindergarten experience. The marvel characters gave Jones’s son the desire of “transforming himself into a bloodthirsty dinosaur to embolden himself for the plunge into preschool” (373).
Censorship limits the knowledge of society's youngest generations through the limit of information. However, the only way to prevent this is if people speak up/stand up for society. According to Holbrook Jackson, “Fear of corrupting the mind of the younger generation is the loftiest form of cowardice.” The claim that is being made in the quote is that messing the mind of the new decent is the lowest form of being a dastard. I side with this quote because making juvenile children's minds filled with “facts” to distract them from the real world, so they don't think for themselves is a weak move.
Parents should be educated about the potential dangers of the internet and to pass down the information to their children cautioning them about the inappropriate material the internet may contain if accidentally stumbled upon. Additionally, their children should be informed about the reason why being exposed and desensitized to the harmful content of violent behavior, profanity, or sexual behavior at a young age is not appropriate. Parents should also well-educate their children about the distinct forms of entertainment and how it is strictly for entertainment purposes only. The way Ellison perceives the show, “Happy Tree Friends,” as an entry to viewing of violence is biased. By labeling the show as a threat to children, it validates the negative effects on young children.
With today’s American teens, the concept of social norms can be easily be pointed out. As social norms is an established manner of behavior maintained by a society, teens today can easily be argued to follow a manner of behavior, such as texting, taking selfies, and wearing the latest trends. The ,hipster, is unique to today’s American teens, an example of visual representation and a subculture. Even with our own personal experience and observations, most teens today represent the typical hipster. Skinny jeans, chunky glasses, and checkered or plain T-shirts, the American teen hipster is a recognizable figure in the modern U.S. As a subculture to today’s teens, the hipster movement brought about new styles of music and fashion.
Censorship in America is often debated. Erin Manning, texas-based writer explains that the American Library Association chooses to censor certain books because of “inappropriate content” and “second rate writing”(Manning 1). Parents attempt to protect their children from the outside world, by limiting their exposure to age appropriate language. When parents do this, their children’s knowledge of the outside world may be limited to what parents let their child view. Although some parents may feel that their child needs filtered information and entertainment, others believe that children and teens need to be shown uncensored content.

Children of the United States of America should have the right to learn about anything for it is there amended right. Taking knowledge away from them and censoring it should not be the answer to keeping our Children pure it should be what we teach our kids.
