During the time period 600 C.E.-1450 in the region of Europe, there were a few changes and continuities in religion. Such changes, Charlemagne was crowned Roman Emperor, the Great Schism, and the first crusade. Even though Europe had there ups and downs, some things just stayed the same, for instance having one God, the Bible, and the 10 commandments. Through this time period, 600 C.E.- 1450, you can see that this time period can be compared to a person who is going through drug abuse problems.

In this time period, you can see many different eras, such as from 600 C.E.- 768 this era can be called The Loss of Power in the Roman Church. This era can specifically be called this because in 768 Charlemagne was crowned emperor, but before this …show more content…

Due to the fact that Charlemagne was crowned emperor in 768 he was able to conquer many empires. Some places that he had in his realm was modern France, what is now called Belgium, the Netherlands, and southwestern Germany. Many of the germanic tribes that invaded Rome soon let Charlemagne become their leader as well everybody that goes as far as the south of Rome. As Charlemagne was ruling over much of Europe he was also spreading Christianity, teaching many people how to become priests or church officials, by the year 1000 most of Europe had converted to Christianity. When the Western Roman Empire had fallen the church was all that was left, leaving the people to trust the church politically and religiously. In the church there were two popes who had different ideas on small issues but very huge in their religion. This became very controversial and soon both of the popes excommunicated each other,this was called the Great Schism, this occurred in 1054. This Great Schism created two branches of Christianity, Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox, this caused a split in the church but it allowed the churches to have their beliefs and take their own actions. In 1060 the church tried to conquer Spain, where the Muslims were causing the Spanish Reconquista. to 1450 can be compared to a person going through drug abuse. At first the church was losing their power, as for a person, they are taking their drugs and their lifetime decreases. Then once the church realizes that their power was decreasing they went through rehabilitation. This consisted of the Great Schism, the Spanish reconquista, and the Crusades. A person going through drug problems will usually have a friend who will tell them that they have a problem, this leads their own rehabilitation. This person will go through rehab and try to find hobbies to keep them away from the drugs. Soon the church will begin to be cocky about how great they are and from this point their power will corrupt them. The church went through the rest of the crusades, the bubonic plague, and later the Italian Renaissance. Now this certain person going through rehab will act cocky just like the church, and soon he/she will crumble because they could have done something terrible and felt guilty after then go back to drugs. Or this person could have been affected by a death of a family member who helped them continue
