What is a good education? A good education was once considered getting past Highschool and receiving a GED degree. Most people didn’t think of going to college It wasn’t accessible to them. College is too expensive, and students didn’t have the means to pay for college. However, today a good education is considered going to a four-year university and receiving a bachelor’s degree. It is pursing majors in the STEM field medical field or in the field of law. Why did the perspective of what a good education change? No Education takes place outsides of a class room setting. There are two types of education in the formal setting which is your regular classroom. The other type is the informal education which we receive outside a classroom through the experiences of everyday life. What we never truly stop learning unless we turn off our brain or disconnect ourselves from the world. “We learn by applying the thoughts we form in our subconscious to our surroundings in ways that our surrounds have taught us to understand them, use them, and share them with others” (Spayde 71). Our brain is always working subconsciously we learn because our brain is always taking in information creating connections with past experiences to understand the context of what is happening. A good education consists of a balance of informal and formal education. They are both very important because there are somethings we can learn from one type of education that we can not learn from the other. We live in a society that values formal education we over look the importance of informal education. Informal education teaches us humanities knowledge that will help us live a better and fulfilling life. The world is such a beautiful place there are so many things to explore love, friendships, cultures, places, nature. Part of having a good education is being open to the things that surround you and exploring. Informal education opens our eyes to the difference types of cultures. Learning different cultures helps us better understand the people around us it teaches us not to be self-centered and that we are not the only culture that exists. We learn through the interaction with people or simply going out and exploring what is out there. Informal education teaches us important life skills that will help us in our journey through life.
