According to an article on times.com, “Why 25% of Millennials Will Never Get Married,” written by Belinda Luscombe, published Sept. 24, 2014, many young Americans between the ages of 18-to-35 who remain single will likely never marry. Luscombe bases these finding on Pew Research Center surveys and census data. The reasons she gives for this happening are that people don’t feel financially stable, haven’t found the right person, and they simply aren’t ready to settle down. There are many reasons why people under the age of 35 are waiting to get married. Many Millennials are not getting married as often as people in past generations because they want to feel financially secure and feel they’re too young.
Today, women have a great deal more options open to them than they had in past generations as far as marriage goes. They can go to school and get a college degree, which allows them to feel secure in getting a good job. Not only do they want to find the right partner, but they want to feel financially secure before getting married; they would rather wait until receiving a college education. Some of them aren’t yet ready to make that big a commitment, putting off marriage until they’re older and more mature. They want to enjoy living the single life and not being bound to anyone. Although, there are some couples who are in committed relationships and choose to live together. This gives someone a chance to get to know that person better before committing to marriage.
