I really enjoyed reading Chapter 1. I became familiar with the New Testament. It was a great learning experience for me as I was not familiar with most of the topics.
The New Testament was not discovered, it didn’t exist until the fourth century. This was a new topic for me. As mentioned in the chapter I always defined the New Testament as a teachings of Jesus. I always thought the New Testament was a book that described the teachings of Jesus but, rather, it is a collection of twenty-seven books written in Greek by people from several places. The Christian Bible is made of two parts The Old Testament and The New Testament. The Old Testament is longer than the New Testament. The definition of Bible to me was collection of sacred texts. But the literal meaning of the word is “little books” which sounds convenient because Bible is a collection of many books composed over many years. I always thought the Bible was available to all. The Old Testament is a record of God’s dealings with the Israelites whereas, the New Testament describes the relation of God with men from every nation. The Old Testament shows the holiness of god in the righteous standard of the law whereas, the New Testament shows the holiness of God in his righteous son. The Old Testament contained about more than 600 laws. The whole population of Israel was tied up by the laws and failure to comply with the laws would cause Israel’s destruction. I thought of the Last Supper as the final meal for the evening. I never realized it was the final meal that, in the Gospel accounts, Jesus shared with his Apostles in Jerusalem before his
