The Genesis Creation Story is from a Hebrew creation myth (Judaism/Christianity). The first story goes like this, Elohim “god” creates a heaven and an earth is 6 days. Although I grew up in a religious household, I myself have not been religious since I became an adult. My memories of Genesis are of a rather boring book with lots of “begats” and stories that are so dry they lose all relatability. Reading R. Crumb’s illustrated book of Genesis brought the dry stories of the bible to life. The people became human with real emotions and I found it fascinating to see how their construct of a god was a reflection of themselves. The first chapter has God creating man in his own image, apparently emotionally as well as physically, as God seems to have all the same base feelings that humans do.
The second day God separated water into the sea and the sky. The third day God created land and plants. On the fourth day God created the sun and moon, along with the stars. On the fifth day, the Lord created fish and birds. On the sixth day, God created animals and humans.
On the fifth day God created the birds, fish and other sea creatures. The beginning of chapter two of Genesis wraps up chapter one, explaining that on the sixth day God created the rest of the land, animals, and made humans in his own image. And on the seventh day, God ceased from work and rested, and blessed that day. Later in chapter two it begins to explain creation in the garden. It is explained that before any living thing had touched the earth, God created a stream that watered the land and from the soil of the land he created the first human.
They created the Earth and the light and the plants and then decided that they needed beings to worship them. They created animals but the animals couldn’t worship them the way they wanted. The first time they tried to create Man, they weren’t suitable so they destroyed them and tried again. They did this twice before finding a race of Man that was suitable. The Old Testament says that there was nothing in the beginning and each day, God created something new.
After the fight is over, the good mind boy creates the sun with an orb from the deceased woman’s head. He also takes other body parts to help make his creation of earth. In Genesis the creator is God, a man not a woman. In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the earth.
In the Genesis Chapter 3 Verses 1-22 the main plot of the story is that Adam and Eve eat the forbidden fruit. God told them that the fruit would kill them. But the the snake(Lucifer) told them that you will not die from eating the fruit but have your eyes opened and that you will be like the gods who know good form evil. So Eve takes the fruit and gives part of it to Adam and they both eat the fruit together. At that very moment they realize that they are naked and sew on leaves to cover their private areas.
Unlike Genesis one and the Book of Mormon, Genesis two does go into detail about the creation of humans. Genesis 2:18-23 tells the story of how God took the rib of man, while he was in a deep sleep, and created women. Like Previously stated, All three accounts use repetition to tell the story of creation. Genesis one, and the Book of Mormon use phrases like “And God said”, or “And He said that it was good.”
In Genesis two, Adam is made, however; in Genesis one verse twenty-seven, God does not give man a name “male and female he created” (Coogan, 2010, p. 13). He then makes the Tree of Knowledge (good and evil) and Tree of Life. After giving Adam land and animals in Genesis two, God states that Adam needs someone at his side to help him “but for the man there was not found a helper as his partner” (Coogan, 2010, p. 14). God therefore makes a woman from Adam. This is important because Genesis one is interpreted as the priestly narrative.
The Old Testaments covers many different monumental events that shaped human life for the good and bad. The first eleven chapters are classified as the Primeval period. Creation starts off the Primeval period. In Genesis 1, which is roughly around 4000 BC. God created everything in six days and rested on the seventh.
Summary- The Lord creates the Earth, Seas, and Heaven in six days, resting on the seventh. He also creates the creatures of the Earth and the Seas and creates man (Adam) from the dust of the ground and creates woman (Eve) from the rib of man. He places both of them in the Garden of Eden where there is much fruit and flora. He allows Adam and Eve to eat from the fruit of the trees but commands them not to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
