Comparing Two Versions Of The Jahwist Source

Most modern biblical scholars believe that there are clearly two versions of the creation story in the chapters of Genesis 1 through 3 in the Old Testament. These versions appear to come from three different groups of authors called the Jahwist Source, the Priestly Source and the Redactor Source. The first version, from Genesis 1:1-31 to 2:1-3 by the Priestly Source, followed by the second version, from Genesis 2:4-25 by the Jahwist Source and Redactor Source. Another difference is that the Jahwist Source in the Old Testament refers to God as "Lord Elohim," however, the Priestly Source refers to God as "Elohim." The scriptures will be printed in different colors in order to aid with identifying the group of authors that wrote the scriptures. In order to distinguish between the different sources, the Jahwist Source will be printed in Blue, the Priestly Source will be printed in Orange and the Redactor Source will be printed in Red. Also, in order to show the difference between the older Septuagint Version and the newer King James Version the scriptures from the Septuagint Version will be printed in a normal print, those scriptures from the King James Version will be printed in an Italic Font. As an example, the names for God in the older Septuagint version will be "Elohim and Lord Elohim," but from the newer King James Versions the same verse would be "God or LORD …show more content…

All living creatures were created before mankind, written in Genesis 1:25-26 by Priestly Source, then, found in Genesis 2:7 and 19 by Jahwist Source, mankind is created first followed by all other living creates.
Specific tasks were accomplished on specific days, in Genesis 1:11-13 by the Priestly Source, but there is no specific order of what was created or the days that they were created on, found in Genesis 2:9 by the Jahwist Source. The order of creation is explained as heaven, the Earth, plants, animals, man and woman, from Genesis 1:1-28 by the Priestly Source. The order of creation is different, in Genesis 2:4-23 by the Jahwist Source, with the Earth, heaven, man, plants, animals and then the woman being created. The Priestly Source lists the creation of the sun, moon and stars, but the Jahwist Source does not mention the creation of sun, moon or stars.
