APUSH P4 11/30/15 SRQS Chapter 13 – IMPENDING CRISIS How were the boundary disputes in Oregon and Texas resolved? • • Britain and the United States both claimed sovereignty in the Northwest, a dispute initially resolved by an 1818 treaty allowing “joint occupation” by settlers from either nation. • • Considerable numbers of Americans migrated to the Northwest in the 1840s. Despite conflicts with Indians, these migrants were able to establish permanent settlements and urged the U.S. government to solidify American claims in the region.

After reading chapter 11, it’s sufficient to say Zach Wahls has a very strong sense of right and wrong. During this chapter, he talks mainly about defining “morality” through the use of moments in his life. He uses these experiences to help break down the idea of what is truly immoral and what society believes is immoral. The examples he uses range from simple things like drinking soda and smoking.
McGrath Chapter 1 Within the first chapter of McGrath's book he lays out his understanding of Apologetics as the ability to relate the Christian faith to contemporary culture today. As I began reading this book we began a study on 1 Peter. It was really smooth sailing until we came to 1 Peter 3:15 but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect, (ESV). This one verse ignited more discussion than any topic we had covered in the two chapters before.
The most important information from chapter eight is the process of gathering information from the Internet. The textbook claimed that “searching the web can be interesting, entertaining, frustrating, addicting, and educational”. This is because Internet information is available for us to access in an instant, but what comes from those searches might not be relevant or useful. The criteria that the textbook offered include asking for authority, publishing body, currency, and purpose. With authority, we look to see if the author’s name, qualifications, and contact information are available.
Thoughts on Chapter One Within reading chapter one, it is very intriguing reading about all the specific assets that came about within Europeans discovering “the new world” (America). Although, many of the topics were interesting, the one topic that stuck out to me the most would be the way the word “freedom” had a different meaning and definition within each culture. The Europeans and Indians had diverse meanings of what it meant to live within freedom. With the Indians and Europeans entering each other’s lifestyle and culture, I believe the diversity helped change the meaning to the word “freedom” that we now have today.
Since the dawn of time, man has always pondered whether women were equal to men. Questions about women’s physical and mental abilities have come up in every society and although every outcome is not the same, the general consensus was that women were the inferior gender. Because of this assumption women, as a whole, have experienced maltreatment, injustice and equality. In the United States, there have been instances of small movements here or there, for voting or for equality.
Catastrophes stress is associated with natural disaster such as earthquakes and robberies. Situational stress includes events such as exams and grade results, while daily challenges can include homework and go to school. Life changes,
In Chapter 11 of Bonvillain’s book she talks about how Spanish is the most non-English language spoken in the U.S as well as the difficulties these people encounter in learning English (p.298-300). At El Centro I noticed a pattern in both classes I helped with; where the women were always more shy and learned at a much lower pace than the men. We can refer this back to Bonvillain’s claim, “Women are more likely than men to retain Spanish because of their relatively narrower social networks”(p.300). It was evident that they weren’t exposed as much as the men to American society. Although both men and women had an accent, the women’s were always stronger and they had a harder time pronouncing the vowel sounds correctly.
All that we do, we are bound to encounter stress. Stress can be defined as a state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or very demanding circumstances. Whenever one is facing difficulty ,suffering anxiety, or feeling worried, stress will immediately take over. Stress has been, and will remain to be, a natural part of our daily routine. This causes many to underestimate its overall effects.
To begin, there are two main categories of stressors that an individual can experience. First, are chronic stressors, which are demanding or threatening events that occur for an extended amount of time. On the other hand, acute stressors are brief demanding or threatening events that may continue to be experienced as overwhelming even after the event is over. There are many different types of events that can be considered as stressors. For example, some stressors are traumatic events, life changes, or the build up of daily hassles.

I have learned about the effects of stress due to my personal experience such as dealing with depression, weight gain, and being antisocial. IV. Today I will explain the physical, mental, and emotional effects of stress.
3. Review of literature 3.1 Stress and its types: Stress is an essential mediator of human behaviour. Immediate physiological response to any type of stressor facilitates survival of the species at its maximum. Despite of normal homeostatic regulatory mechanism, the stress responses can become maladaptive. Chronic stress, for example immobilization, exposure to noise, irradiations, psychological stress can leads to a host of adverse health consequences, including cardiovascular diseases, neurodegeneration, obesity, depression and early ageing (McEwen et al, 2004).
For instance, stress could lead to stress-induced gastrointestinal problems, irritable bowel syndrome, acidity, acid reflux, insomnia, depression, heart disease. Moreover, stress could push the victim toward high risk behaviour such as smoking, drinking, and substance abuse. Stress-related illness led to increase in absenteeism and attrition affecting the profitability of the organizations. (Kumar & Rooprai, 2009) Stress can be triggered by the pressures of everyday responsibilities at work and at home. Traumatic stress, brought on by war, disaster, or a violent attack, can keep your body’s stress levels elevated far longer than is necessary for survival.
