Max takes the day off of school because Freak was coming home from the hospital. As stated on page 88 “Gram lets me stay home the next day because Freak is getting out of the hospital, and I’m right on the front step when the Fair Gwen pulls up in her car. This is evidence that Max is staying home because Freak is getting out of the hospital. Freak’s explanation for needing a new body is that his insides are growing but his outside isn't. As stated on page 89 “But how come you need a new body?” “I ask” “How come you can’t just stay like you are?” ….. “No one stays like they are,” “he says.” “Everybody is always changing. Gram doesn't want to get a gun because she doesn't like violence and she is afraid that Max’s father will take it and start shooting. As stated on page 90 “I know what will happen I’ve dreamt about it for the last eight years? He’ll come in here and he’ll take that gun away from you, and then he’ll do the shooting.” This is evidence of why Gram doesn't want a gun in the house. Grim wants one to protect them from Max’s father. As stated on page 90 “...Never again, though. That man tries to set foot in this house, I aim to shoot him.” This is evidence if why Grim does want a gun in the house. I agree with Grim because with the gun he could protect them from Max’s
