I am reading Hero by Mike Lupica and I am on page 124. The book is about Zach, whose father died in a deadly plane crash. Zach is looking to find out what he thinks happened to his father: The plane crash was not an accident. While still coping with the loss of his father, and while looking for what happened to his father, Zach meets a man, Mr. Herbert, who gives Zach superpowers. In this journal I will be predicting and questioning.
With descriptions of their mundane school grounds, unsightly home lives, and the rough and tough appearance of the boys, Joshua Davis paints vivid portraits of the main characters of his novel. While thumbing through the novel, I could feel the fear associated with the constant threat of deportation, and the anxiety of wondering if their families were going to be there when they returned home. When it was revealed that the boys had succeeded in winning the competition, I felt a physical wave of happiness and relief wash over me. This kind imagery and ability to translate emotion is essential in telling a story such as this, because a person truly needs to be able to place themselves in the shoes of those boys to be able to fully appreciate
Callarman provides a strong analysis in which I disagree on many aspects. He gives his own opinion in which Chris McCandless lives his life after he graduates and travels around the United States. He leaves everything and even burns his money because he wanted to live just how he is and enjoy what nature brought to him. His final destination was Alaska in which he wanted to go to get away from everything and that’s where he lived his last days of his life. I was saying I disagreed with Shaun Callarman because I believe he did have common sense and was a bright man.
In the book, Warriors Don’t Cry, Melba Pattillo Beals brought significant events that are significantly influenced her and the other characters. There are two factors that I feel have significantly influenced Melba and other characters in the book, such as family and community support and racial politics. Family and community support have significantly influenced Melba because in her family, Melba got support from her Grandma India and Mother Lois. Even though Grandma India is always strict to Melba, Grandma India showed her attention towards Melba. As an example, “You’re staying home, baby …
Furthermore, on page 217, Holt writes, “Zachary’, the sheriff says, ‘it appears you made some friends while you were in Antler,’ Zachary looks at us-Ferri, Kate, Cal, and me-and smiles.” This shows how Zachary has evolved as a character, by accepting others for who they are, and giving people chance, even if he thinks they are different from
At Ballou Senior High, a crime-infested school in Washington, D.C., honor students have learned to keep their heads down. Among the mere handful of students with a B average or better, some plead to have their names left off the "Wall of Honor" bulletin board; others hide during awards ceremonies; only a few dare to raise their hands in class. Like most inner-city kids, they know that any special attention in a place this dangerous can make you a target of violence.
Zach Harriman thought he knew everything about his dad. Sports fan, former football star, and advisor to the president of the United States. But that’s until the plane he was on mysteriously crashed along with everything else Zach knew about his dad, Tom Harriman. This horrendous accident lead Zach to not only figure himself out, but to discover new things about his dad. In the book Hero by Mike Lupica, Zach Harriman proves how strong, independent, and reliable he is.
Amazingly(#3), the protagonist is a young boy named Tim, who is gullible(qa), brave, strong, and often jealous of others(w/w). Tim’s foil is his father, Life, who is a stout, strong, and stubborn (alliteration) man. Tim’s other foil is his brother Sam, a stubborn, mature, intelligent teenager. Throughout (#2) the book, Tim deals with his antagonist, his choice of which side to support (sv) during the war. The minor characters are Tim's mother, Sam's girlfriend, and Tim's helpful friend.
“The Hero’s Journey” is term for a narrative style that was identified by scholar Joseph Campbell. The narrative pattern would depict a character’s heroic journey, and categorize the character’s experiences into three large sections: departure, which contained the hero’s call to adventure, fulfillment, which consisted of the hero’s initiation, trials, and transformation, and finally the return. The novel The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan investigates the relationship and actions of four Chinese women and their daughters. The character Lindo Jong’s youth in China exemplifies the three part heroic journey in how she leaves the familiar aspects in her life, faces trials in the home of her betrothed, ..... Departure:
Peter Wiggins is a violent person, but is also a caring brother towards his siblings. Peter is a caring brother because he apologizes for his mistakes, conveys his feeling towards his sister, conveys his feelings towards his brother and changes his abusive character of a successful leader. Peter conveys his feeling for Ender and said he “he was sorry” (Card 15). Peter acted tortuous towards Ender, but he knows that his actions hurt Ender. Peter could not stop abusing Ender because of the jealousy, anger, and pain he has towards his brother.
The story “The Charmer” shares the same themes. Although these characters have reactions to these themes. In this story, Winnifred is the immature and adolescent one. She sees what Zachary is doing to their family but she cannot help but still think he is a hero. “By the time I was thirteen, Zachary’s halo was dimming, but I still adored him.”.
Aaron has a change of heart in the story, Zlateh the Goat, written by Isaac Singer because he realizes that Zlateh is a better gift than any Hanukkah gift he could receive. Aaron realizes that Zlateh can save his life. This is one factor that leads him to believe that Zlateh is better than a Hanukkah gift. In Zlateh the Goat, Aaron says, “ “For three days Aaron and Zlateh stayed in the haystack.”
Character Analysis: Ruth The Invisible Hero demonstrates a range of characterisations in high school characters. From dictators to bystanders; one character demonstrates a personality twist. While interacting with others, Ruth’s characterisation develops from victim to hero.
In Kate Chopin’s “The Story of an Hour” demonstrates the personal growth of the dynamic protagonist Louise Mallard, after hearing news of her husband’s death. The third-person narrator telling the story uses deep insight into Mrs. Mallard’s thoughts and emotions as she sorts through her feelings after her sister informs her of her husband’s death. During a Character analysis of Louise Mallard, a reader will understand that the delicate Mrs. Mallard transforms her grief into excitement over her newly discovered freedom that leads to her death. As Mrs. Mallard sorts through her grief she realizes the importance of this freedom and the strength that she will be able to do it alone.
Forgiveness is the action or process of forgiving or being forgiven. (Hawkins, 1994, P. 206) My personal understanding of the parable ‘The Prodigal Son” is that it portrays the importance of reasoning and forgiveness. The main characters in the parable are two sons and a betrayed father. The father remains constant throughout the parable, although he has being betrayed by his younger son.
