The boys turned to Dally for help when they needed it because Dally has been to jail before and he knew where to hide out. Ponyboy and Johnny turned to Dally for help when Johnny killed a Soc. They needed help from Dally because he had been to jail many times and so he knew where all the hideouts were. In the text right after Johnny kills a Soc they go over to Dally and Dally tells them,”Hop the three-fifteen freight to Windrixville.” He must then know where the hideouts are when he tells more about where they need to go. “There’s an old abandoned church on top of Jay Mountain.” Dally instructed them to go hide out in a church until he could get there.
