INTRODUCTION TO CHEMICAL ENGINEERING
Chemical engineering is a outlook influencing wide range of areas in technology. In broad sense, chemical engineers study and design processes to transform, produce and transport materials starting with experimentation in the laboratory of the industries followed by implementation of the technology in the full scale production of the chemical/products.
Chemical engineering is a branch of engineering that applies physical sciences (physics and chemistry) and life sciences (microbiology and biochemistry) along with applied mathematics and economics to produce, transport, and properly use energy, chemicals and energize. In the field biotechnology, chemical engineers help design production facilities that are used in the microorganisms and enzymes to synthesize new drugs. Problems in environmental engineering that include chemical engineers include the development of processes (effluent treatment facilities, catalytic convertors) to reduce the release of or deactivate products harmful to the environment.
To do the above mentioned jobs, the chemical engineer must have a complete and quantitative understanding of both the engineering and scientific principles underlying these technological processes. This entire thing is reflected in the curriculum of the Chemical Engineering Department, which includes the study of applied mathematics, material and energy balances, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, mass and energy transfer, separations technologies, reactor design, process design and chemical energy kinetics.
