Anyone can serve their country, but there are few who go above and beyond. Joining the military is a great way to serve America and be more than just regular. Some young adults join for personal satisfaction and pride, while others join as a first step to a life long career (military.com). My grandpa, Chester Fisk, joined because it was the only logical option for him. It must have worked out well because he ended up serving for twenty two years, two months and fourteen days in the United States Army. After the Army he served America by working for The Ford Motor Company. Chester Fisk served America by serving in the United States Army and working in the assembly line at Ford (Fisk, Chester). Chester Fisk, better known as Chet, William, or Sarge was born on August 10, 1931. He was born in Walterboro, South Carolina to a family of six. He had three siblings, one sister and two brothers. They were extremely poor and lived on a cotton farm. He had a good family life and although they were poor, they were happy. In school he was a good kid who got average and not so great grades. He worked at the very end of the line and his job was to add the finishing touches to the cars. He made sure that everything was in order, and mad the last final checks before the cars were driven away to a different location. His original plan was to only work at Ford for ten years. He desperately wanted to return to his home state of South Carolina, but eventually decided to stay for his children. He decided to stay for his children who had built their lives in Ohio and who were having children of their own.
