The University of Chicago satisfies just about everything I could want in a university in terms of the kind of learning the school offers, its community, and how it can aid me in pursuing my future. Principally, as a student, I want to be academically challenged. I would much rather be doing very difficult, advanced coursework rather than being part of a class where I am not presented with any worthwhile problems to address. I suppose it is all well and good to take an easy course that one can pass with minimal effort, but that sort of intellectual stagnation is something which I find simply unattractive and counterproductive. I believe an active, diverse community is ideal. Meeting people of varied economic, cultural, and academic backgrounds is always fascinating as it allows one to talk with people who have formed differing perspectives or ideas on topics one might be familiar with or might be totally unaware of. A diverse community then offers me new perspectives and ideas while being able to learn about others and their respective backgrounds. The University of Chicago is fantastic in this regard as students have the opportunity to interact and live with others in entirely unrelated academic subjects, and of differing ethnic and cultural backgrounds and as the school has a great history of being open to all students, regardless of gender, race, or religion. Although I do not know which specific occupation I would like to pursue after I finish attending college, I do generally know that it will almost certainly involve mathematical skills. This is because mathematics has always been a subject which has been of the greatest interest to me and is thus my intended area of study. The University, as one of the greatest for studying mathematics, is ideal for me in pursuing that future. As well as this, the school offers me the opportunity to pursue my academic interests beyond purely mathematics, allowing me to take part in some other field should the interest
